The first month of school is finished! Was it as stressful for you as it was for me? Between essays, assignments, after school clubs, thinking about university, and/or a part-time job, I bet the first 4 weeks of September just flew by!

This month’s blog is about understanding stress can worsen pimples and breakouts. So, we have some tips to help reduce stress that can help you prevent acne this school year.

1) Find a personal space to relax for 5 or 10 minutes.
If you can find a quiet, dark space to sit in and let stressful thoughts fade away, you can then get up and move on with your day.

2) Get some exercise.
Going for a run, doing yoga, and lifting weights are all great ways to focus your mind and body on something other than the stress you’re feeling. Exercising also releases endorphins that can increase your good mood.

3) Eat well and sleep enough.
It sounds like something a parent would say to trick you, but eating right and getting the sleep your body needs can help you to focus, be better organized, and fight stress.

4) Put on your headphones.
Turn up the volume, and sing along to your favourite song. Getting out of the stress and into music can help to clear your mind and bring a smile to your face.

5) Talk to someone you trust.
Find a friend, family member, or staff member at school to talk to about what is causing your stress. Getting your thoughts out of your mind and receiving feedback can be very helpful.

Remember, stress is a natural part of life. Situations are going to come up from time to time that feel like too much pressure and can cause those feelings of discomfort. The key is to find a trick or two that works for you and beat it before it beats you.

Keeping your stress low can help prevent acne from getting worse and can help you feel more comfortable in your skin.
