Now that summer’s over, your skin is about to face a whole new set of challenges. Cold air means dry air, and dry air means dry skin. Thanksgiving and Halloween come with a gluttony of food and treats that don’t exactly help your complexion. But don’t worry! There are numerous ways for you to reduce fall acne so you can be ready for your winter close-up.

Eat Pumpkin Seeds

While you’re carving your pumpkins this month, don’t forget to hang on to the pumpkin seeds! Not only are they delicious, but they also contain zincwhich has been known to improve acne. Many people have even reported a lessening of acne problems when they increase their zinc intake from a good source like pumpkin seeds.

Wear Breathable Clothing

One of the best things about this season is the warm, cozy clothing that we all wrap ourselves in. Just remember – if you burrito yourself up in big sweaters and scarves, try to make sure they’re made of breathable, loose-fitting cotton. Not only will this keep you toasty, it also helps prevent body acne.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

As we mentioned earlier, when the air starts to get colder outside, it also gets drier. This can cause our skin to look red and flaky, making it more susceptible to acne breakouts. You should be moisturizing all year long, but during these colder seasons – it’s even more important!

Drink Lots of Water

Dry air also means dehydration. If we’re not getting the recommended amount of water – especially during the cold months, our skin can become dry and less bouncy. We recommend trying to consume at least two litres of water every day – not only for the health of your skin, but your overall health as well.

Use Sunscreen

We know it can seem a little silly to use sunscreen when it’s gloomy outside, but it’s extremely important. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays can pass through clouds. This is the reason people often end up with serious sunburns on overcast days if they’ve spent time outside without sun protection. Make sure you lather up if you’re going to be outside for awhile!
