Welcome to the New Year everyone! 2014 is finally here and it’s time to start thinking about how we can all make it a great year.
A lot of people are into the practice of making New Year’s Resolutions. It’s a tradition that dates back as far as the ancient Romans. However, a 2007 study found that as many as 88% of all resolution makers failed.
That statistic sounds very large, and it can be a deterrent to anyone who is thinking of making a change in his or her lifestyle in the coming year. But if you want to make positive changes for 2014, we want to support you and give you some tips on how you can turn your resolutions and goals into successes.
1. Set Realistic Goals
There are big things that we would all like to accomplish in our lives. Unfortunately, some of them are too large to tackle all at once or at this time in your life. Keep that in mind when you are setting your expectations for 2014.
For example, I would love to be able to run a marathon someday. But I haven’t done any running in a long time so telling myself that I’m going to be able to run 42.195 kilometres by the end of the summer may be a bit of a stretch. A more realistic running goal would be to run consistently, do my best, and look for improvement as the year goes on. That’s a goal that I can reasonably expect to achieve.
2. Don’t be too Hard on Yourself.
Making changes in your life can be hard. There are going to be times when you slip up or make a mistake. And that’s okay.
Nobody is perfect. Not a single one of us. And it’s important to keep that in mind as you go through the year. If you slip a little bit, don’t get too down on yourself. Take the chance to remind yourself why you made your goal and how great it will be to stick with it. Find new resolve to keep pushing towards it and be awesome.
3. Be Positive.
If you’re making New Year’s Resolutions or setting goals for 2014 it stands to reason that you would like to successfully accomplish them. And if you really want to be successful, a positive attitude will be a great tool for you.
Just like it is important not to be too hard on yourself if you slip, it is important that you reward yourself for doing well. Give yourself a pat on the back once in a while. Treat yourself to something you like and keep pushing until you reach those goals.
No matter what goals and resolutions you set for yourself this year, we wish you all the best for a happy, healthy, zit free 2014!
