“I’ve heard of old home remedies for acne that include using Vodka and Eggs and all kinds of things to keep my skin clear. Is any of that true?”

There are many “home remedies” that are used anecdotally for the management of acne. Generally, the clinical research evidence to support their use is limited and, occasionally, home remedies can cause irritation and flare-up, rather than improvement.

Vodka, for example, contains alcohol, which can over dry the skin and irritate acne lesions. Having a good skin care routine and using topical non-prescription (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur) and prescription pharmaceutical agents (depending on severity and previous treatment experience) if needed is likely to have greater benefit.
